HISTORY OF THE FACULTY

 In January 1961 the University established Harden College of Education as part of the Faculty of the Social Sciences. From September 1st, 1964, Harden College of Education became Faculty of Education charged with secondary level of education in Nigeria. The Faculty came into being in response to the Ashby recommendations of 1960 which gave support to the establishment of a university in the Eastern Region of Nigeria. The Faculty of Education till today is housed in Harden building. It is one of the pioneer faculties in the field of education in Nigeria. The Faculty now produces University graduates and postgraduates with combined honours degree well-equipped to meet the manpower needs in the secondary and tertiary strata of Nigerian education system. Since its inception, the Faculty has maintained the status of a trail blazer and a pathfinder in the training of educators and education administrators in Nigeria. This premier administrators Faculty of Education in Nigeria has consistently provided academic leadership in innovative programmes and creative approaches to education.
