The Department of Social Science Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka is one of the newest departments created by the University of Nigeria authority in the 2007/2008 academic session. It has for long been involved in the forefront of projecting human development in teacher education geared at meeting up with the contemporary challenges of man in Nigeria and the globe at large.

The Departmental students’ handbook is a profound guide to students’ exposure on the history of the university, its philosophy, vision and mission statement, core values, anthem, course registration, grade point average calculation, classes of degree, examination malpractice and its consequences, marking and grading of script, graduation requirement, issues of withdrawal from the university, brief history of the department of social science education University of Nigeria, identification of their academic and non academic staff. The handbook is designed to resolve the confusion of the admission requirements of programmes in the department. It is expected that this handbook will continue to be revised and updated in view of frequent changes occasioned by the inclusion of innovative University-wide courses prescribed by the National Universities commission or the University.
