ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

            For admission into any of the degree programmes, prospective candidates must satisfy the University of Nigeria minimum entry requirements and should also meet the Departmental requirements.

AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION

(a)        UTME

4-year degree programme:

Credits in any five subjects which must include: English Language, Agricultural Science or Biology or Animal Husbandry or Fishery plus at least a pass in Chemistry in SSCE/GCE (O/L), NECO/NABTEB or their equivalent, obtained in not more than two sittings.

(b)       Direct Entry (DE)

            3-year degree programme:

(i)  A pass in NCE Agricultural Science plus, at least, a pass in O/L Chemistry.

(ii) GCE A/L pass in any two of the following: Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology,  Mathematics and Economics.

(iii)  National Diploma (ND) or Diploma from any recognized Nigerian School of Agriculture, or Faculty of Agriculture of any recognized University.

Candidates with University Diploma at a minimum of Merit level, in the following disciplines listed below and who possess the University minimum entry requirements plus, at least a pass in Chemistry at SSCE/GCE (O/L)/NECO/NABTEB may be considered for Direct Entry admission but will run a 4-year programme

(i)  Diploma in Computer Education or Computer Science

(ii)  Diploma in Social Work

(iii) Diploma in Adult Education

(iv) Diploma in Environmental Protection and Management

Candidates with a pass level at NCE will run a  four-year degree programme.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES             

Graduates of the degree programme in Agricultural Education can obtain employment as teachers in secondary schools or technical colleges and colleges of education. The programme is generally geared towards the fulfilment of the need for professionally qualified technical teachers who can impart technical knowledge and vocational skills to their students in various agricultural areas and thereby contribute to the economic development of Nigeria. Agricultural Science at the Junior and senior secondary schools will adequately be taught by graduates of the programme. More importantly the graduates can be self employed on graduation in Agriculture related occupations and can work in Ministries of Agriculture (Extension Unit) and parastatals.

BUSINESS EDUCATION

(a)       UTME

           4-Year Degree Programme

Candidates must have credit passes in five subjects obtained at SSCE/NECO/NABTEB/GCE O/L which must include English Language, Mathematics and any of the following subjects: Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounting and Typewriting. The five credits must be obtained in nor more than two sittings.

(b)       Direct Entry (DE)

            3-Year Degree Programme

Any of the following:

  • Two A/L passes plus credit in English Language and Mathematics obtained at SSCE/NECO/NABTEB/GCE O/L.
  • A minimum of at least, merit level pass at NCE Business Education plus credits in English Language and Mathematics obtained at SSCE/NECO/NABTEB/GCE O/Level.
  • A minimum of lower credit pass at ND Secretarial Studies/Administration from any recognized Polytechnic plus credit passes in English Language and Mathematics obtained at SSCE/NECO/NABTEB/GCE O/Level.
  • Full Technical Certificate/National Secretarial Examination Certificate at Advanced Level in Business Studies plus credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any of the following: Economics, Commerce, Secretarial Duties, Principles of Accounting or Typewriting obtained at SSCE/NABTEB/GCE O/Level.

(c)   Candidates with University Diploma at a minimum of merit level in other disciplines listed below, who possess the university minimum entry requirements plus at least credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Economics of SSCE/GCE O/level/NECO/NABTEB may be considered for direct entry admission but will run a 4 year degree programme.

(i)         Diploma in Computer Education

(ii)        Diploma in Social Work

(iii)       Diploma in Adult Education

(iv)       Diploma in UNN Cooperative Studies

(d) Candidates with a pass level at NCE will run a four year degree programme.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the programmes in Business Education will obtain employment as teachers in secondary schools and technical colleges. The programmes are geared towards the fulfilment of the need to impart professional skills to their students and thereby contribute to the economic development of Nigeria. The following secondary school subjects will be taught by graduates of the programmes in Business Education: Business Studies in Junior Secondary School, Book-keeping and Accounting, Typewriting/Keyboarding, Commerce and Shorthand in Senior Secondary Schools.

COMPUTER EDUCATION

(a)       UTME

4-Year Degree Programme

            The candidate must possess five O/Level credits, which must include English Language, Physics or Mathematics in WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE O/Level/NABTEB and any three of the following subjects, Chemistry, Biology, Agric. Science, Economics and Geography at WASC?SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB, obtained at not more than two sittings.

(b)       Direct Entry (DE)

3-Year Degree Programme

            Any of the following

  • GCE A/Level or its equivalent with passes in Physics and Mathematics.
  • HND in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any Computer related studies with lower credit from any recognised Polytechnic.
  • Diploma in Computer Education of UNN or National Diploma of any other recognized institution.
  • A minimum of pass in NCE Computer Education plus credit in Mathematics or Physics and Credit in English Language in WASC/GCE O/Level SSCE/NECO/NABTEB.
  • A Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) of UNN or any other university recognized by UNN in any science discipline.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

            Graduates of the degree programme in Computer Education will obtain employment in teaching in schools and colleges. Jobs opportunities also exist in software development firms, industries, and other allied occupations/parastatals, hardware maintenance firms, information technology (IT) firms, and also graduates can be self-employed.

HOME ECONOMICS EDUCATION

(a)       UTME

            4-Year Degree Programme

            Candidates must possess the entry requirements of five O/level credits which must include Chemistry or Biology and any two of the following: Home Management, Clothing and Textile, Food and Nutrition, Agricultural Science, Garment Making, Cosmetology, Catering Craft and Economics at WASC/GCE O/level/NABTEB/NECO, obtained at not more than two sittings.

(b)     Direct Entry (DE)

            3-Year Degree Programme

Any of the following

  • A minimum of lower credit in ND or Diploma in Fashion and Clothing Management Education, Home Economics, Hotel and Catering, Home and Rural Economics plus a credit level pas in any two of the following: Home Management, Clothing and Textile, Food and Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Garment Making, Catering Craft, Cosmetology and Economics at WASC/SSCE/GCE O/Level/NABTEB/NECO.
  • A minimum of merit level pass in NCE Home Economic with credit in any two of the following: Home Management, Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Garment Making, Catering Craft, Cosmetology and Economics at WASC/SSCE/GCE O/level/NABTEB/NECO.

(c)  Candidates with university diploma at distinction/credit/merit in the following disciplines listed below who posses the university minimum entry requirements plus at least a credit in Biology or Chemistry at WASC/SSCE/GCE O/level/NABTEB/NECO may be considered for Direct Entry but will run a 4 year programme.

(i)         Diploma in Computer Education.

(ii)        Diploma in Social Work.

(iii)       Diploma in Science Lab Tech.

(iv)       Diploma in Adult Education.

Candidate, with a pass level in NCE plus any two of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics, Garment Making, Catering Craft, and Cosmetology at WASC/SSCE/GCE O/level/NABTEB/NECO will run the four year degree programme.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

            Graduates of the degree programme in Home Economics Education can obtain employment as teachers in secondary schools or technical colleges and colleges of education. The programme is generally geared towards the fulfilment of the need for professionally qualified vocational technical teachers who can impart technical knowledge and educational skills to their students in various Home Economics areas and thereby contribute to the economic development of Nigeria. Home Economics in Junior Secondary and the different areas of Home Economics (Clothing and Textile, Food and Nutrition, Home Management, Garment Making, Catering Craft and Cosmetology) in senior secondary school will adequately be taught by graduates of the programme. The graduate can be self employed, on graduation, in Home Economics related-occupations.

INDUSTRIAL TECHNICAL EDUCATION

(a)       UTME

4-Year Degree Programme

  • The candidate must possess five O/level credits, which must include English Language, Physics or Mathematics in WASC/SSCE/GCE (O/L) or NECO Examination/NABTEB, obtained in not more than two sittings.
  • City and Guilds intermediate plus credit in Mathematics or Physics in WASC/SSCE/GCE (O/L) NABTEB.
  • National Technical Certificate.
  • WASC Technical Certificate.

(b)      Direct Entry (DE)

3-Year Degree Programme

  • A minimum of ND (Engineering civil, Mechanical/Production, Electrical/Electronics, Building/Wood) – what level of pass?
  • Distinction, credit or merit in NCE (Technical).
  • City and Guilds final or Engineering Technicians part II Certificate.
  • National Diploma in related technology Education.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the degree programme in Industrial Technical Education will obtain employment as teachers in secondary schools, technical colleges, polytechnics and colleges of education. The programme is geared towards the fulfilment of the need for professionally qualified technical teachers who can impart technical knowledge and vocational skills to their students and thereby contribute to the economic development of Nigeria. The following secondary and technical school subjects will be taught by graduates of the various programmes in Industrial Technical Education: Introductory Technology in junior secondary schools, Technical Drawing, Woodwork, Metalwork, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Building Construction and Auto-mechanics in senior secondary schools and technical colleges.
